With hurricane Helene making landfall on Wednesday, September 26th, we must investigate the impact on waterfowl and hunting in the area. First, It is important to understand that this hurricane has devastated families and their livelihoods, and that is more important than the effects on waterfowl hunting.

That said, we must highlight the effects it will have on the conservation in the area and how this will change the season for those who rely on waterfowl for food and making a living. According to Ducks Unlimited, The hurricane’s direct impact on an area is a result of the storm surges and Winds causing the loss of wetlands and vegetation on which the ducks and geese rely. The hurricane’s strong winds can then disrupt the migration patterns and cause a later arrival too many areas.

These two factors will change how the waterfowl population will be in these affected areas, and ultimately how hunting looks for the residences. With over 100 million acres of wetland in the United States, the waterfowl can adapt to these situations, and that is why according to Tom Moorman we must continue to work on the conservation of these wetlands in America.
